Prehistory, the classical period, Roman domination, the Byzantine Empire, the Crusades and Modern times: Greece through the centuries will unfold before your eyes on this four day tour.
1st Day: Leave Athens by the coastal road to the Corinth Canal (short stop). Drive on and visit the 4th Century Theatre of Epidaurus famous for its remarkable acoustics. Then proceed to the town of Nauplion (short stop) Greece’s first modern capital after the liberation from the Ottoman Empire drive on to Mycenae, the Homeric city of Atreides the city ‘’rich in gold’’ of the ancient poets and visit the Archaeological Site and the Tomb of Agamemnon. Then depart for Olympia through Central Peloponnese and the Towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis. Overnight in Olympia, the Cradle of the Olympic Games
2nd Day: In the morning visit the Archaeological Site with the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, the Ancient Stadium and the Archaeological Museum. Then drive on through the plains of Elia and Achaia to the magnificent Rion – Antirion Bridge, which connects the Peloponnese to Mainland Greece. Pass by the picturesque Towns of Nafpaktos (Lepanto) and Itea to arrive in Delphi. Overnight.
3rd Day: In the morning visit the Archaeological Site and the Museum. Depart for Kalambaka, a small town situated at the foot of Meteora. Overnight in Kalambaka.
4th Day: Visit Meteora, the ageless Byzantine Monasteries, part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage List with priceless historical and religious treasures. Built in the 15th century by Christian Monks to evade the Ottoman Turks, they stand, suspended like, between earth and sky on top of huge granite rocks. Return to Athens via Trikala, Lamia, and Thermopylae short stop to see, across the road, the Monument to Leonidas and the 300 Spartans who died there defending Greece and Europe from the invading Persians in 480 BC ?, arrive in Athens early in the evening.
Note: For the visit of the Monasteries ladies need a skirt and gentlemen long trousers
